IBI strengthens international collaboration through its Neurodiplomacy Working Group
The IBI Neurodiplomacy Working Group was launched soon after the first African high-level science summit held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in July and August 2024. The goal of the platform is for neurodiplomacy stakeholders worldwide to engage and accelerate the vision of IBI for the promotion of brain health for all people.
Neurodiplomacy or Neuroscience diplomacy can be conceptualised as neuroscience for diplomacy, diplomacy for neuroscience, neuroscience of diplomacy and diplomacy in neuroscience for the promotion of brain health, brain economy and brain capital, geared towards the wellbeing of humanity and our planet.
The launching of the Yaoundé Declaration on the Brain Economy, Brain Health and Brain Capital in Yaoundé on World Brain Day 2024 (July 22, 2024) was the take-off activity, followed by high-level discussions of this diplomatic instrument at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 79 and UNGA80 as well as at other global, regional, and national fora. The Bern Declaration on Brain Health has since followed in 2025, and are working toward enabling other similar regional and national diplomatic instruments in the year to come.
