IBI Newsletter #1
19 March 2019
Welcome to the IBI community!
Since December of 2017, following the pivotal Brains at the Dome conference and subsequent Declaration of Intent, seven large-scale nationally-sponsored neuroscience projects have agreed to form the IBI alliance. Japan Brain/MINDS, the Korea Brain Initiative, the Australian Brain Alliance, the Canadian Brain Research Strategy, the E.U. Human Brain Project (HBP), the U.S. BRAIN Initiative, and the emerging China brain project commit to leveraging their efforts to maximize combined impact.
Representatives from these Initiatives have formed a coordinating body of like-minded individuals to globally engage, produce resources, and efficiently align their efforts for the international neuroscience community. With shared Vision and Aspirational Goals, the IBI organization includes three central teams and a framework for Working Groups. These groups consist of an Inventory of Brain Projects, Global Neuroethics, Data Sharing and Standards, Tools and Technology Dissemination, Training and Education, and Communication and Outreach. The IBI is not a mechanism for funding nor a mega-research project; we instead actively promote and coordinate global neuroscience collaborations.
In 2019, we strive to capitalize on the unique opportunities available for global neuroscience collaboration. Please join us in this historic effort by sharing your thoughts, comments, and suggestions. We hope to hear from you soon!
