IBI delegation engages in key discussions at the Science Summit at the 80th United Nations General Assembly

In parallel with the Science Summit during the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, the IBI delegation engaged in multiple sessions on global brain health and economy.

Drs. Anthony J. Hannan (IBI Co-Chair) and Alfred K. Njamnshi (IBI Neurodiplomacy Working Group Lead) participated in a panel on "From Fragmentation to Coordination: Building a Global Brain Research Framework”, as part of the 2025 Brain Days, hosted by the European Brain Council on September 25-26, 2025.

They explored how international collaboration can accelerate brain research and innovation, strengthen synergies across initiatives, and address barriers to data sharing and capacity building. The discussion highlighted opportunities to align global efforts and ensure research translates into tangible benefits for citizens and societies worldwide.

In this panel, Dr. Shubha Tole, International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) President-elect, discussed with Drs. Hannan and Njamnshi how the IBI and IBRO can collaborate to enhance global neuroscience through complementary goals and missions. Meanwhile, Dr. Friederike Bathe, Coordination and Support Action (CSA) BrainHealth Coordination Office Head, also discussed opportunities to fund emerging international partnerships in neuroscience.

In addition, Dr. Allison Sekuler (IBI Canada) participated in a panel on “Masterminding Brain-Positive Systems Change” during the 2025 Brain Economy Summit on September 24, 2025. The Summit brought together industry leaders, research experts, design professionals, and other stakeholders. Participants discussed the importance of working together to generate an actionable agenda that advances scientific breakthroughs on youth mental health, brain health, dementia, aging, and more.
