A Position Paper has been published in Neuron
A Position Paper titled “International data governance for neuroscience”, authored by the Data Governance White paper Task Force of the Working Group has been published in Neuron. In this paper, the authors consider how to approach data governance in a way that balances data protection requirements and the need for open science so as to promote international collaboration, through federated constructs such as the International Brain Initiative (IBI). A workshop arranged by the Training TF
Training TF arranged a workshop (Training resources for cross initiative data-driven modeling workflows) at CNS*2021. The goal of this workshop was to bring the community together to identify existing training materials and gaps that can be filled so that a coherent “course” on this topic can be assembled and shared at the INCF Training Space. Talks on training resources and brainstorming in breakout sessions fulfilled the aim of this workshop. Find details here.

Data Standards & Sharing WG Extended Meeting
Data Standards and Sharing Working Group brought together a wider neuroscience and neuroinformatics community for the extended working group meeting as a satellite event of the INCF Neuroinformatics Assembly 2021. Through an introductory presentation from the WG co-chairs, updates from the task forces, and featured talks from five invited speakers, the meeting covered the WG’s recent progress toward fulfilling its mission to “implement mechanisms for data harmonization between existing global research efforts, international neuroscience-relevant societies, and neuroscience researchers.” Learn more here.

Data Sharing Symposium
This working group successfully organized the International Brain Initiative Symposium on Data Sharing, sponsored by the Kavli Foundation, as a part of the INCF Neuroinformatics Assembly 2021. The meeting covered the WG’s recent progress and two keynote talks from Kenneth Harris and Kristen Harris highlighted what we should do in promoting fruitful data sharing. Find details here.

Data Standards and Sharing Roundtable
Japan Agency of Medical Research and Development (AMED) and the Kavli Foundation co-hosted the Data Standards and Sharing Roundtable in Tokyo. This roundtable aimed to understand the goals and the data management plans of different brain initiatives, to define common interests, overlapping needs, and possible domains of cooperation as well as to decide short- to long-term action plans and according WG management structure. About 70 data enthusiasts around the globe joined the event in person. Updates from seven brain initiatives and sets of panel discussions over two days led to a successful beginning of the IBI Data Standards and Sharing Working Group. Find the pamphlet here.
